Zemanta/Apture: help with blogging

There is all kinds of potty advice online about how to blog effectively but two free downloadable tools which may well help you improve your content and are certainly worth a quick whirl are Zemanta and Apture.
Can I suggest...
Zemanta looks at your blog posts as you type and suggests what it guesses are relevant images, tags, text, etc, and then provides you with an easy one-click way of adding them in. There's an online demo on their main site (it's a browser plug-in for Firefox and IE but also available as a bookmarklet for Chrome and Safari) and has got the thumbs up from the folk at Blogger who have pushed it enthusiastically. You don't need to highlight any text, Zemanta just analyses and looks for you.
Apture works slightly differently. Once you highlight a word or phrase in your post, Apture then provides you with a selection of relevant images, tags, text, etc (also audio).
I've played around with them both and my favourite is Apture which I've found genuinely does help enrich my blogs, but do have a try yourself and see if it helps. And let us know how you get on. – Alex Johnson
