‘Moonlighting’ leads to surge in home based businesses

An article in today’s Sunday Times refers to thousands of professionals – “lawyers, financial advisers, computer programmers and marketing managers” - who are looking for freelance work outside of normal office hours. We see this as a welcome first step to thousands more home based businesses.
The article, written by Robert Watts, refers to research from Capital Economics showing an extra 56,000 people who are “exploiting their job skills to earn extra cash” – you can bet your bottom dollar they’re exploiting these skills from an office that’s called home.
The piece goes on to quote friend of Enterprise Nation and founder of freelance site www.peopleperhour.com, Xenios Thrasyvoulou, who says: “we have a lot of people who say they are under-used at work and can go online and find extra to do.”
The final quote comes from Avon (who have more reps running a home business than the personnel count of the British Army) and attracted 17,000 new recruits in the past year alone.
This all bodes well for home business in the UK.
